2010 Annual Training & Development Conference


CALL FOR PRESENTERS

INTRODUCTION:
The Eastern Region Conference of the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR) is currently accepting proposals for their 2010 Training & Development Conference.  The Eastern Region IPMA-HR holds an annual 3-day conference to promote sound practices of Public Sector Human Resources professionals throughout the eastern region of the United States.  The Eastern Region’s membership consists of eight chapters of HR professionals from federal, state and local governments.

Chapters within the Eastern Region include:

Albany Capital Region (New York)
Connecticut
Montgomery County (Maryland)
New Jersey
Patuxent River Basin (Maryland)
Rhode Island
SE Coast (Massachusetts)
West Virginia

The Eastern Region, IPMA-HR invites you to submit a proposal to share your experience and expertise with your colleagues in HR management.  Others will benefit from your experience while you make a valuable contribution to the profession’s field of knowledge.

This year’s conference will be held from Monday, September 20 to Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the beautiful Marriott Inn and Conference Center adjacent to the campus of the University of Maryland in College Park, MD.

PROPOSAL REVIEW:
The Eastern Region, IPMA-HR seeks experienced presenters with proven speaking ability.  Those with a track record of speaking and performing well at large conferences and events will be given preference.  We strive to offer a balanced program of educational sessions by selecting proposals which best fit within the framework and theme of our program.

This year’s Conference Theme is:
“Journey Through the HR Beltway”

Members of the Program Committee’s Evaluation Team will review all complete proposals submitted on or before the Due Date (March 15, 2010).  From the proposals accepted by the Evaluation Team, final selections will be made by the Program Committee.  The Eastern Region, IPMA-HR seeks presentations that will provide our conference attendees with information that will improve their performance on the job.  Sessions conducted by practitioners that include practical, immediately applicable work tools will also be given preference.

PROOF OF PAST PERFORMANCE:
The Eastern Region, IPMA-HR strives to offer a balanced program of educational sessions and experienced speakers at our conference.  Proof of performance is strongly recommended.  Acceptable forms of proof of performance are audio tapes, video tapes or evaluations from a program the speaker previously presented.  Letters of recommendation, phone numbers, marketing brochures, books and articles DO NOT qualify as proof of performance.  Any proof of performance can be submitted electronically with the speaker’s application to present OR sent under separate cover to:

HONORARIA:
The Eastern Region, IPMA-HR has a tradition of using educational conference sessions as a platform for innovation in the field of Public Sector HR Management.  The region is a non-profit organization and we look for contributors who are willing to share their expertise with little or no honorarium in the spirit of networking and education, a purpose for which the Association was founded.  Any honorarium or reimbursement of expenses will be negotiated with the Program Committee.  Corporate sponsorships are welcomed and can be arranged for conference presenters.

EXPECTATIONS:
The Eastern Region, IPMA-HR expects all presenters to:

  • Meet all deadlines
  • Retain the session content and audio/visual needs as originally submitted
  • Not add a Co-Presenter or change the identity or number of presenters without permission from the Program Committee
  • Provide high-quality handouts by the date and in the format requested; handouts should be forwarded in electronic format for inclusion on the conference materials CD or zip-drive
  • Honor the region’s commitment to provide education by not showcasing or promoting the speaker’s practice, services or products
  • Respect the Eastern Region, IPMA-HR as the sponsoring organization with either positive or neutral comments from the platform; and
  • If you are a public sector employee, please check with the ethics officer of your organization about any potential conflicts

In return, the Eastern Region, IPMA-HR will:

  • Provide a complimentary registration to the conference for the day of your presentation and the conference meals that may be offered that day.
  • Work with you to ensure you are given every opportunity to put your best foot forward in front of our conference attendees
  • Assign a member of the Program Committee to personally assist you with any questions or concerns you may have
  • Grant you valuable professional exposure to public sector HR professionals from throughout the Eastern United States
  • Upon request, provide you with your evaluation scores after the meeting/conference
  • Provide you with a list of conference attendees.

THEME AND SUGGESTED TOPICS:
This year’s conference theme is ““Journey Through the HR Beltway”.  The Program Committee has chosen this theme to design a program in which participants can learn strategies for dealing with emerging challenges of managing human capital and techniques on how to improve their own performance.  We are also approaching this conference with an eye to concepts around reaping the benefits of renewal and recycling.  In these times, how can HR professionals rely on each other for the renewal of energy and the reaping of our collective knowledge for the recycling of ideas and methods to not only sustain ourselves, but thrive in today’s economic environment?
